Glencore buying out competitors early would benefit them hands down, not to
mention them diversing from the DRC a little if they keep playing games with their mining operations and especially a top 5 deposit in a ethical sourced country. Even if they don’t develop it it could stop large amounts of cobalt flooding into the market and lowering their ability to manipulate the prices.
It will be on China’s radar as well. Buying it does not only give them a massive resource if DRC turns to sheet, it removes the chances of the US/western countries snapping up supplies. In my opinion im expecting a late run of interest from the Chinese once SS and JORC upgrade is revealed.
Strategic is the word that comes to mind.
