This seems like you are presuming such a science has not already been developed ?
Such things have been rigorously studied for many thousands of years by those interested in what is possible for the inner world of Man.
Sometimes bits and pieces filter through in popular religions, "new age" speculation etc. and contemporary science is only just beginning to discover the tip of what has been known and practiced for a very long time.
It's not widespread because most people actually are not all that interested, preferring children's stories or more lately, the pronouncements of "science" to define their world.

Let's face it, contemporary science is only just beginning to accept that the body was designed to function optimally through plenty of physical activity, proper diet and mental stability. It's not that long ago that most medical practitioners would tell a patient that changing their diet or increasing exercise would not make any difference to their disease. Only the medication/surgery could help.
Science can be a slow learner when it comes to overturning previous "settled" beliefs.
