The whole "Smart people are atheists" idea, is not new, not cool and not original in you or your backslappers.
Considering that modern physics teaches us about extra dimensions, dark matter, dark energy, things popping in and out of existence in a supposed "vacuum", things so small they will never be seen, things that observing them changes their state, you cannot expect a belief in God is anything stranger than all that.
