Yep your right, Snakes and bloody big Goannas love fresh raw eggs. I remember as a kid seeing quite a few Snakes and Goannas with an egg going down their necks. The snakes were mostly Dugites which are a brown snake and very poisonous.
So yes be careful collecting eggs in the summer.
