There's an asparagus patch right in the middle of their pen and i'm assuming they would annihilate it when it shoots up? I was going to throw some mesh fencing wire over that area to keep them out.
Yes I would fence it off if you can. Chooks love digging/scratching for worms etc, and it's guaranteed they will get into it.
