I read BF's article today, and I have wondered about options for a while now.

What are the actual mechanics of exercising options, ie redeeming and buying the actual shares before the expiry date?

I would love a reply, or a a pointer to appropriate forum, but ideally, for my learning experience, and to stay in the context, here would be great.
