Cat, your sino-phobic-sentiments are your entitlements courtesy of this democratic country.
I inserted this article on a jolt from the past as my late father was incarcerated in Soviet Gulag
for 10 years; in fact not far from the Chinese Northern province where the camps are being established.
Let's keep firmly in mind that China IS a socialist/communist oriented society.
You may feel comfortable proselytizing its condition from a comfy & safe distance.
The reality is tragic for the millions still affected by those politcal orientations.
China is establishing itself on a world stage as an "up yours" measure in return for
past humiliations from the West & East.
It will take some time to weave Humanitarianism into their social fabric.
I have no doubt it's coming.
Cheers,
Simgrund,
Sorry to hear about your father, but times and cultures have changed. I worked in China for six years (this century), mostly with young engineers coming from all over the country so I got to understand how a lot of them think. They are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. (A lot of what I see going on in Australia day to day would never happen in China).
I was going to write a lot more but I've already done it too often on HotCopper, and it's off topic, so I'll leave it at that.
