China’s monthly pig iron exports fell by 73.0% from a year ago to 17,000 tons in April 2008 when shipments to Japan accounted for 16,000 tons, down 62.3% from a year ago, according to Chinese customs statistics made available in Tokyo. In January-April 2008, China’s pig iron exports stood at a mere 86,000 tons in total, down 70.8% from the same period of 2007. Of the total, Japan took the largest amount of 59,000 tons, down 77.2%. Also, there are exports of 14,000 tons to South Korea, 10,000 tons to Taiwan, and 1,000 tons to Hong Kong.
