ummm.....
antibiotics do not work for colds as they are viral infections ( whereas antbiotics kill bacteria )
and therefore should not be prescribed for that.
a lot of work has been going on to reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics
but clearly more needs to be done as too many GPs ignore the guidelines.
