Best idea is always buy a product you personally own yourself to provide tech support if the oldman needs help so you understand the issue. Secondly Apple iPad is light for his wrists and saves him money when charging compared with a Laptop. Finger touch is better for him also as nothing more painful for the old bloke trying to find numbers and letters on a keyboard.
So really any touch screen, go with a name brand as they do last longer for the extra money...
