After pay needs as many merchants as possible, as the loans are quite small so at the moment splitit can have the same sales volume with 10% of the retailers if afterpay has an average transaction of $100, as splitit average is over $1000. Also retailers with pricier items cannot offer afterpay as an option for pricier items - the list is huge. If they sign up car retailers........... you could get a 3 year car loan interest free for example. Who would not take that up, if you have the credit limit and need to borrow for a new car? It's a no-brainer
also If they sign up amazon / e-bay / partner with paypal....... well thats just 3 or 4 customers with access to millions.
