Visited NZ a while ago ready to feast on its outstanding primary produce famous throughout the world. Very disappointingly, like its natural beauty, it's merely a facade.

While there were some fabulous meals consumed, the prices for food were astronomical in even the most isolated and ordinary venue. Visits to the supermarket left us in shock at the price of most things, but it was the price of dairy thst really rocked our world. And in general the cost of living was extremely high for locals, given that I have to leave Australia each winter to avoid the crazy utility costs. (For a couple of grand I can be somewhere else rather than pay the gas company)

Prices for dairy, specifically cheese and butter were at least double what was paid in Oz at the time. And the variety even in more populated areas, was even more disappointing. Why this is, I don't know, but I suspect that the place is geared to tourists and export markets. Innovation is something to be encouraged just like our beloved A2.

I've already commented on NZ's issues with the environment only to be howled down by a couple of interested parties so I won't be going there again. But life for the average person in NZ isn't the life of Reilly that most in other countries imagine. Explains why so many average Kiwis left.
