To contribute to the discussion about brokers; My biggest reason being with Commsec is that I can buy shares without having a cent in my trading account. I just have to come up with the money before settlement, typically within two trading days after purchase. If I buy and sell the same day or the next, I don't even have to move money around. (I am not sure if this is available to new customers. I think you have to have shares in your Commsec portfolio to back your purchases.) Does anyone know any other broker who does this?

In contrast, with NAB, I need to come up with the money even before I put an order in. Paying a few dollars less for brokerage does not win me back to NAB.

I prefer to have money sitting in my mortgage offset account and just move it as late as possible to pay for share purchases.
