I hear you there, it caught a lot by surprise, even the ones that did see it coming still couldn't do a whole lot about it other than to mothball or sell projects on the cheap. From a contractor perspective, the amount of resources and cost that had gone into ramping up for the boom meant that it just couldn't be wound back overnight, well at least from what I saw anyway.
Just my opinion.
