New publication: QFT-Gold in a Danish TB investigation

Following the recent publication of a Japanese Sensitivity and Specificity study using QuantiFERON -TB Gold, Cellestis is pleased to announce that another independent study using QuantiFERON-TB Gold has been published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (AJRCCM), the official publication of the American Thoracic Society. The study is from Denmark, and demonstrate that in latently infected persons QFTB Gold positive results correlate with risk of exposure to an active TB case, and are unaffected by BCG vaccination.

The paper has been electronically published ahead of print, several months prior to the hard-copy printing of this study in AJRCCM. Interested parties can view the summary at the following link h**p://ajrccm.atsjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/200402-232OCv1. Full copies of this article are now available for subscribers of the journal.

This Danish study used the second-generation QuantiFERON-TB Gold assay with TB-specific antigens ESAT-6 and CFP-10 that are not present in BCG vaccine strains and the vast majority of non-tuberculous mycobacteria. PPD reactivity and skin test response was also examined, in contacts in a tuberculosis outbreak at a Danish high school. Exposure risk was the main criteria of analysis, with subjects broken down into high and low exposure groups. The majority of the contacts were BCG-unvaccinated which allowed a direct comparison of the skin test and the novel blood test in individuals whose skin test was not confounded by vaccination. Excellent correlation with exposure to the index case was found, as was excellent agreement between the two tests (94%, kappa value 0.866.
