Your final sentence here is the key, most companies I have seen in my short time tend to get tight on cash flow just as they are about to put their hard work on the market. They have expended their cash to develop the product and once it comes online their reserves become flushed again.
If they were flush with funds at the moment I'd ask the question as to why they hadn't hired more staff and developed their product sooner?
