newb - they had the option to do the capital return as well / instead of a buyback, and have elected to do buyback only.
ONE reason why they might have gone down this path is that it is in MQG's interests, as a 20% odd shareholder in MMG, to do this.
Every share that is bought back at a discount to cash backing makes each share owned by MQG just a little more valuable.
