I had a most bizarre experience here in Vancouver. Went to a doughnut shop on Granville Island and ordered a blueberry doughnut. I got some change out of my pocket and the shop assistant said they only take debit card. I had the exact change but she refused to take it. No point arguing as it wasnt her policy but I was thinking things must be pretty good if you refuse custom based on your own derived policy.
i walked away grateful that she saved me from my moment of weakness but i did make a mental note not to give them my business in the future. By principle i use cash most of the time as i like to complete trade transactions immediately and save fees but i got to think about the inherent weakness in relying on a system totally reliant on electricity, internet, machines etc. There has been many stories of systems being down, software glitches, power outages so I was somewhat bemused that someone would have a business that does not have good resilience in exchange methods.

I am sure this will play out more in the future
