Remember the mining towns in the USA in the 1800s (In other countries as well)
You went to work for the mine and then you had to rent their homes, buy food at their stores, send your children to their schools ETC ETC
At the end if you were lucky you had a very little over but there was nowhere to spend it.
The Western world is becoming the same with all our facilities, utilities etx, owned by a very small group and it really does not matter how much money they pay in wages because they get it all back anyway with a little left over if you are lucky.
It could be said that we are paying tax so the pollies can run the country and we are paying more tax to the small group at the top.
It is even becoming increasingly difficult to actually purchase anything as most stuff is leased in some way like software,
