Lakes will not be dug up because the extraction process uses a bore or a small narrow trench.
"You would then pump that brine up out of the lake and into an area where you've created some evaporation ponds and the first two stages of the production are evaporation which gets the sodium chloride, the normal salt, out of the brine," he said.
"Then once you've a higher potassium product you can use a process that's called fractional re-crystallisation to produce the sulphate of potash, so just so everyone's clear - you do not dig up the lakes."
