I am not a farmer or horticulturalist, so i will ask a stupid question. Why not hemp ?

Has industrial uses, grows quickly, needs little fertisation etc. Produces O2, oil and fibre.

I am currently in the Middle East (dont let the IP adrress fool you) and am off to Djibooti where they grow a similar plant. Djibooti has the landscape of Mars yet thrives in such conditions.
