Hopefully they have re-insurance, the value of which is easier to estimate with the sum insured approach. I understand it's very hard to get insurance in Wellington now.
Rebuilding a whole city increases the cost of tradies - that risk is now passed to the consumer.
There's no doubt in my mind that both insurers and government are responsible for the failure in Christchurch.
Hopefully they have re-insurance, the value of which is easier...
