    From a taxation perspective the Plantation Contracts are not a normal investment. The initial investment amount (and ongoing fees) are tax deductible and then any harvest return received is fully taxable. Such contracts are in a way a tax deferral mechanism (presuming you do get a harvest return - ask Great Southern, Timbercorp etc growers). This applies to Australian growers - not sure about offshore growers.

    (Not saying TFS woodlots will end up like the Great Southern, Timbercorp fiascos)
