    If you are an investor for share trading as per the ATO criteria, could trading in CFD's, where you are not considered a dabbler, but still only on a very limited scale, cause your investor status to be then classified as trading. In other words, can you be an investor in relation to your share trading while at the same time a trader for CFDs (since that latter are on the income account and not the capital account).

    I am a share investor on my personal broker account and I am investigating using CFDs as an alternative to margin trading (IB doesn't allow margin trading for individuals, but has introduced CFD trading which it says is an alternative). I do not want to lose my "investor" status due the the significant discountable capital gains sitting in my portfolio.
