re: widespread frost damage in wa
An extract from the ABARE report. Noone will know the true extent of damage until harvest is done. All the farmers I know are leaving their worst paddocks till last which is masking the damage to the trade. Who knows you could get a hailstorm and insurance will save the day! Haspete I think you may be telling porkies! LOL
--------------------------------------------------------- That quality issue is affecting the Western Australian harvest, with farmers finding bigger crop losses than first expected from major frosts in September and October.
Tincurrin grain grower Don Thompson says green plant material in the crops is causing plenty of frustration.
He has lost entire paddocks to frost and expects other farmers will find the same.
"There's a lot more frost around and what a lot of people realise, there's been a fair amount of ostrich-trick going on, with the head in the sand," he said.
"A lot of people didn't go and have a look, they're finding out now there's certainly a whole lot more frost.
"Once crops started to ripen, the frost became more and more evident.
"I know of a couple of situations where a couple of farmers seem to think they're lost between 50 and 80 per cent."
