Rubbish!
Shares issued under a DRP will appear in your broker account within a day or two of the dividend payment date. They are then treated the same as all the other shares you own and can be sold on market.
Usually the company will issue new shares for the DRP, instead of using the dividend money to buy them on market. Thus the total number of shares increases and the company saves some cash.
I normally avoid DRP’s because of the extra effort required to keep track of all the parcels for capital gains purposes.
