JD I suggest you do some research as your answer demonstrates you are not familiar with the DNi process. Thanks mbomb for pointing out to JD that the DNi process is not heap leaching -it is continuous rapid tank leaching. According to the CSIRO and all other information I have studied the OPEX is less than half of alternative processes -20-60 kg of nitric acid per tonne compared to 500 kg of sulphuric acid for HPAL. The reagents are stable inert -so all the environmental problems you quote have no relevance at all - and the tailings footprint is half that of a HPAL plant. I come from Townsville way back and I can tell you where there is a will there is way -siting of a new plant does not present a problem with an environmentally friendly process like DNi. Noone is suggesting yet the DNi process will work at production scale but at least get the process flow sheet right so we can have a meaningful discussion.
