'GM opposition exists because: (a) the fear of a few multinationals (Monsanto) taking over food production by the control of seed production, using all their techniques for market manipulation. ie the sell out of the worlds populations interest by giving away their rights with the implimentation of plant variety rights. (b) there has been detrimental effects recorded and reported of this manipulation. eg CSIRO seed potato fiasco, US corn withdrawn as animal feed due to livestock losses'
GM opposition is unfounded. There will be hundreds of plant biotech companies seeking to produce crop varieties with some sort of production edge. Plant Biotech is one such Australian company but it is in caretaker mode given it does not have clear 'path to market'. The irony being these companies will be the future multibaggers as the GREAT AGRICULTURAL BOOM unfolds. So the conspiracy theory of Monsanto controlling food supplies is a joke and at the very least gross fearmongering.
Detrimental transgenic examples exist and that is not because of the technology itself it is because of the lack of due diligence in analysing what the net effect will be on the palatability of the food. And that is why strict regulatory frameworks now exist to examine each and every considered genetic modification. It is in a company to get it right because if they don't and people die or get sick, litigation will see to it they likely get sued off the face of the planet.
Get over your fear because it is unfounded. You'd be wiser to worry about just what is going to happen to the world as an increasingly larger percentage of the globe becomes FOOD INSECURE. The least of which will be the hyperinflated cost of the stuff!
