    JEmployment issues in the sector ( not enough jobs ) have been widely flagged.

    Companies are dealing with this in a variety of ways as per recent links including trying to make the working environment more palatable to women and speeding up DAMA - (Designated Area Migration Agreements).

    On December 18 Mining Monthly reported a fellow contractor ( where there has been strong recent price movement ) is actively seeking ex military workers

    Macmahon makes veteran call
    MINING services provider Macmahon is targeting ex-defence force personnel to fill jobs across its network of contract services to surface and underground mining operators in Australia and offshore.”....

    On it’s web site Macmahon says there is value in veteran programs :

    ....“Common misconceptions that army, navy and air force veterans often suffer from mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, carry ‘baggage’ or struggle to hold down jobs have contributed to high unemployment rates among this group.
    .............

    “Already during 2018, there has been a 36 per cent increase in jobs demand in the mining sector, as reported in the latest analysis from DFP Recruitment’s National Mining and Resources Job Index.

    “To better engage with ADF veterans to help fill demand, we’ve joined with several of Australia’s biggest mining and associated services companies to throw our weight behind ‘The Working Spirit’ program. This provides an interface to link defence and former ADF personnel with key industry players and boost employment levels,” said Mrs Blacklock.

    Through The Working Spirit group, Macmahon and other miners are improving the employment opportunities available to veterans. Aside from offering a direct ‘employment opportunities’ portal, the group hosts career summits, networking opportunities and social sundowners specifically for former military, navy and air force personnel.”

    The point that the public sees mental health issues as a potential risk is a fair call. I do not know many ex military people but ten out of ten of those I do are dealing with PTSD .

    It’s a delicate area and I am reminded of @Parma’s link back in July where extreme mental and physical stress was cited by Adam McCleery of the Daily Mail as ;
    The REAL reason Australian workers aren’t filling $150,000-a-year jobs - despite employers offering cushy perks including free accommodation with gyms, swimming pools and bars..

    ......It’s a proven fact that if you’re FIFO for longer than two years there’s a three in four chance your relationship will go bust, you get the few blokes out there that love working away because they have no ties at home but mostly everyone does not want to work that long away anymore,' he said. ....
