Downer tests market to divest its mining services division

Speculation is mounting that Australian listed services company Downer Group could soon be parting ways with its mining services division, with investment bank UBS thought to be testing market appetite.

According to a source close to the company, there are no current divestment plans afoot.

But that does not mean Downer would be averse to a sale of the division should a suitor come forward with the right price.

Sources say that despite denials, a divestment remains on the agenda given that mining services are not core to Downer and are highly capital intensive.”
