Leak in Forrestfield-Airport Link tunnel causes sinkhole on section of Dundas Road

“A SINKHOLE caused by a leak in a passage between two Forrestfield-Airport Link tunnels has forced the closure of Dundas Road.

In a statement this afternoon the State Government said the leak developed in a tunnel cross passage about 1pm on Saturday.

Despite efforts to fix the problem, the leak continued through the night.

“Despite these efforts, groundwater and silt is still flowing into the cross passage and one of the tunnels,” the government said.

A sinkhole developed immediately above the site, on Dundas Road about 200m north of the Forrestfield Station site.”

Dundas Road has been closed to traffic while work takes place to fix the leak and repair the road.

Two tunnel-boring machines, 2km further on from the problem area, have been stopped while the repairs takes place.

The government said safety managers are at the site to ensure worker safety.

No workers have been injured.”
