Hi Sabine - some more info re track design. Gauge/rail is standard, however my understanding is that they created their own design for the slab, sleepers, vibration/noise isolation and clips. And they then used this to push down the prices of specialist Aust and International contractors who were all trying to bid with their own track design/component packages.
The consortium seemed very willing to design things from scratch if/when they thought it’d save money. I suppose that’s the sort of innovation a BOO model encourages, although with the downside of additional execution risk.
Not sure how much of the driverless technology and rolling stock design is vendor IP vs consortium designed ... I suspect they used a similar model to reduce costs tho.
