It's probably all but too late for the miners to lock in "the best deals" with the mining services companies.
Nonetheless, business must go on, resulting in a higher COG's.
I would imagine that both RIO and FMG will be pretty keen to minimise their costs so they will in all likelihood be scrambling to lock in their contracts sooner rather than later. On that basis, I think RIO will have made their decision well before XMAS.
