My view of the matters I this thread are:

• The shareprice will fluctuate.
• Rather than the institution 'UBS' it's the analyst that's important. Are they worth their salt, if so they can save the inexperienced from losses.
• Most people should not invest, especially now that the market is overvalued and dangerous.
• It's hard to evaluate management and whilst important it's an oft-overstated factor. Even management I meet and know personally I can't judge. Even boards I have removed its not personal they just weren't right for that particular job.
• My favourite quote is Lynch - paraphrasing "buy a business any idiot can run because chances are that will happen".

The odds are against the small punter because they are their own worst enemy, the market is staked majorly in our favour.

Luckily I never studied any finance as it's such a massive disadvantage in investing.

@madamswer is onto it, once the analyst consensus is behind a stock it's likely overpriced.

Maynard Keynes said the same thing:

I tend to go where no-one (even madamswer) agrees with me, that's where I am most comfortable, the returns have been adequate and I keep my positions to myself now as I know what the reaction will be.
