Interesting topic. We had the Greens block the carbon tax in the senate for political opportunism leading to the downfall of the Rudd government and the implementation of a carbon tax + 10 years of political fighting across all parties and no action therefore no private sector investment or new public power generating infrastructure pushing commercial electricity prices from around $35/Mwh to +$100/Mwh in approx 10 years. We had the Greens/Labor coalition approve the Curtis Island LNG facility and associated dredging of the Barrier Reef re-directing our east coast gas supply to Asia on the premise there would be a CSG explosion to supplement domestic demand and then they realized that their voter base would not tolerate that so we went from having the cheapest gas in the world ($3GJ) to being #30 (+$10GJ) in approx 10 years. My point is really who do we vote for? The only person that has done anything is Turnbull stepping in to ensure gas companies assure domestic supply. Another bug bear is the government is now paying industry to curtail energy use during peak periods to maintain supply and keep their voters happy, would that money not be better spent on new energy supply?
