Seeing as everyone starts a new thread when they post thought i would as well
Every post on this forum quotes from an American perspective we are in Australia, our regulators & whole financial system are different
So lets concentrate on Australia. Find any example of serious bot manipulation on the ASX, anyone give me any example, there is so much emotion about it surely someone has something
"High frequency trading strategies dominate trading in the US, with traders pursuing micro arbitrage opportunities by churning large numbers of relatively
small trades in stocks and exploiting the ability of the new platforms and algorithmic or computer-generated trading to execute orders in milliseconds.
That kind of trading can alter the fundamental character of a market. Whether that is a positive or negative hasnt yet been determined conclusively"

Disadvantages of using Trading Bots
"The main disadvantage of a Bot is it does not react to announcements! Now as mentioned earlier, Bots are very useful and quick in their execution,
but what if a sensitive news announcement was released and the Bot was programmed to sell while the stock was in a downtrend at the time?
That would be disastrous for the programmer, as all shares would have been dumped on open after the news release.
I believe this particular disadvantage in some cases outweighs any benefit using a Bot, of course only if left unattended!"

CV *****Below is the reason I believe for most suspected sightings of bots on the ASX, & from my experience its only every been a positive in the long run ******
"I have recently discovered another reason for using a Bot from my broker as I queried certain peculiar trades in the course of sales.
I was advised that certain brokers use Bots to act on behalf of a large investor wishing to accumulate a larger than normal parcel of shares."
In order to achieve this without spooking the market a Bot is setup to continuously buy smallish parcel at a certain limit in price while following VWAP to speed the process. The market in general would be unaware of the accumulation as only small parcels are bought."

CV: So Brokers are using bots as i stated before to put big moves on the market whether they be buy or sells, instead of thinking we are in America,
Bot action can be viewed as accumulation or divestment by a big player, Whether you decide to whine about bots or act on its action is your choice.
Is their speculation about a big deal, joint partner, takeover potential, failure of drilling or company etc etc,
up to you to decide based on your on knowledge & not blind belief you are always right.
Recent case MEO had lots of bot whiners now petrobras is on board & it jumped 24%.
So maybe instead of whining how retail investors are being unfairly treated, maybe view bot action for the potential that could allow us retail investors to see some positive trading ops. Personally bots have provided me with more positive than negative.
Also keep in mind if you don't have a SMSF bots are helping to stop the losses in your super by getting out of some of the stupid stocks these managed funds invest in or do you think fund managers should dump 1-5% of a company in one hit on the market. I reckon there would be a new forum than called large player manipulation making retail investors cry
Bots have their place once you realise that the glass will be half full rather than half empty
