I always think to myself whenever I hear a new toll road being proposed...
As a country, we pretty much had road and rail to all points of the compass (and in the case of rail, to many places where the track has now been ripped up) some 80 years ago...and often much earlier in the case of rail. We did this with a population (tax) base less than half of what it is now.
Now a days, it seems governments can’t find the money themselves to build 10 or 20 km of new freeway....they have to flog it of to the private sector to build another tollway, despite the massive increase in takings from registrations.
