So far, Trump's new tariffs has been like taxes that raise the cost of imports to the US consumer. There are no alternative products for many Chinese imports into the US, so the tariff cost is borne by the US consumer. It looks like the Chinese exporters suffer less so than the US consumer from the impact of tariffs.
