If they get half reasonable results with the trial ... then they have a number of options open to them. Yes, they might do a direct fundraising. DDD clearly raises this suggestion as part of a scare-mongering campaign - fundraising = dilution, get it? But past practice suggests that they would do a deal with Merck. All sorts of other deals and/or partnerships with others would also be possible. But in every single case, if there has been a half decent trial result then there will have been a half decent surge in shareholder value. So for goodness sake, cut the pointless scaremongering and wait for the trial result.
