You don't need to wait, it already happened. Bitcoin can handle near infinite transactions right now through lightning capable wallets. I can't even tell you the true tps because there's no central point to measure the tps. Compare this to Btrash or SV (Scientology Vision), both of which still can't do transactions safely due to them:
