Bill Shorten has turned up the heat on the Victorian Labor government over its moratorium on conventional gas exploration, declaring policies that lock up gas reserves should be reconsidered.
The Opposition Leader said this morning that he understood why state governments had banned fracking due to environmental concerns.
But when asked on Victoria’s moratorium on conventional development, Mr Shorten said Australia needed more gas in the market.
He also put pressure on Malcolm Turnbull to immediately implement his flagged policy on export control.
“There are legitimate community concerns about fracking,” Mr Shorten said this morning.
“In terms of conventional gas I do think we need to reconsider making sure we have got access to conventional gas supplies.
