I agree that advertising for renewable energy is probably reasonably adequate already. I read the budget to say that $50M would be spent this year to keep the Greenhouse Office officers employed. The task would be developing and trialing ways of getting the climate change message and the need for a carbon price (tax/trade/whatever) out there and prepare people for higher energy costs. Renewable energy needs a general, moderate subsidy plus guidance. This can be achieved most cheaply with a moderate Feed In Tariff, possibly variable for domestic / distributed industrial and core industrial generation, paid for by a levy on ALL power users. Skin in the game. The $50M goes for smoothing feathers and getting people to accept the small levy. This avoids the need for the gov to stump big dollars in risky start-ups but gives the start ups leverage to get funding in the market place.
