Its never really made sense to me that RIO, BHP and Vale (and all the others) are all racing to expand and increase production.
If they held off expanding a bit they could keep demand/prices up and generate profits for less volume over a longer period.
OPEC seem to do it well with oil, but the resources seem to be on a course of forcing prices lower to their own detriment.
It would appear to be fear of allowing the opposition to increase production and steal market share.
