Your question is about the Trump support base. This group is one reason why the prosecution is moving slowly and cautiously. My guess is that a substantiated evidence trail will placed in the public domain well before Trump is charged by SDNY prosecutors.
My other guess is that the GoP will unload Trump before the 2020 election campaign gains any momentum however they won't want to do so until an evidence trail is placed clearly in the public domain, Democrats know this and will drag their feet accordingly.
