Smith has departed, an interim CEO taking the role temporarily. The departure of Mr Smith, as the person widely suggested to be largely behind the BCL liquidation, may not cause the possible BCL/UAE deal any harm as Smith is alleged to have forcefully advocated winding up BCL for some time, and also seems to have likely influenced the Nkomati deal to be cancelled at the BCL/Nkomati London meeting last year, which triggered the BCL liquidation.
