TUESDAY, 6 JUNE, 2017 - 16:30
The government is said to have already invested P980 million into the liquidated Phikwe based BCL mine according to testimony was given by a senior official with the Minerals Ministry, Obolokile Obakeng.
Giving account before the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, Obakeng said the money was to care for and maintain the mine while the Botswana Mining Development Company worked around the clock in sourcing a potential investor for the mine.
The payment of the liquidator who is accountable to the High Court is said to have also been inclusive in the 980 million Pula.
Obakeng revealed that the BCL liquidator, Nigel Dixon-Warren, was paid over 27 million Pula.
Obakeng was responding to PAC member Bogolo Kenewendo who wanted to know how much government has recently put into the mine and what the money was used for.
