With record low interest rates, few people in the U.S. are prepared to settle with 2 percent average in a bank. With so much money on the sidelines looking for a decent return, stocks are the alternative. This partly explains why the U.S. markets are holding up relatively well.
The U.S. share market appears to be somewhat stronger than our Australian market. The finance sector is still a drag on the XJO.
Shorting the index never worked for me. The required timing for entry and exits is beyond my longer-term position growth stocks trading style. During the various times I tried to short the index, I ultimately lost money. This was style drift, i.e. a departure from my usual investment approach.
