Bluebottle everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this, in fact mining here on the north coast of the Territory is something Rio Tinto do very well. Despite the bauxite operations in Gove suspending their processing plant (great for the environment), they are still shipping bauxite out of Gove and believe me you can still catch plenty of fish there. Having lived in Gove, I suspect if mining for bauxite where to take place in the Tiwi`s that it would operate the same as in Gove - on a ship it out and process elsewhere basis, therefore limiting environmental concerns.
As stated in the Tiwi island land council pending mining exploration permit applications ( Initial exploration discussions completed, agreements in draft.)
