The company was incorporated as Metals Finance Australia Pty Ltd on 12 May 2006, subsequently changed its name to Nickel Developments Pty Ltd on 2 May 2012 and became a public unlisted company Nickel Developments Limited on 28 June 2012.
The rationale for creating a single public unlisted vehicle for the three projects was to allow other investors to contribute additional capital for development of the projects,
