excellent summary
@regalMy favorite part of this thread however is the shorters contributions with only a "cant be" statement. Hilarious to think people are holding positions with nothing more to add
The story of the shorters on this stock is simple in my opinion.
Morgan Stanley's 2018 strategy was to short the best performers of 2017. Pretty simple really.
They built their stories and began to chip away at mid sized companies.
In particular those companies where they could borrow shares from institutions (i.e GXY)
Shorters are now in a position where either they close and create a massive short squeeze (i.e. Porche and VW example ages ago) or they delay the inevitable with a constant chipping away.
Its quite sad to think institutional ownership is now a bad thing but its definitely the case, any institution buying fundamentals will lend out their shares to benefit from the short term whilst the fundamentals will always reflect the share price in the long run
so with regards to GXY, Its a game of chicken really, any shorter that is first to reverse will create a massive flow on effect.
So what will be the trigger? LCE price increases? LIT ETF breakthrough? SDV announcements? EV car sale announcements? Capital return announcement? What we do know however is each of these triggers are only months away.... so we have an opportunity to make 30 to 100%+ in only a few months.
